Backstory

On Friday afternoon, June 23, the following message from the company’s system administrators was sent through our corporate communication channels:

There are disk array issues on s1.uid.me. Our technicians are starting the data recovery.

Wondering what the s1.uid.me server is? It’s one of our two specialized servers that host the guid.uid.me service (or uID.me), which is used to log in to uCoz websites (if you don’t have local users enabled) and their Control Panel (if you don’t have a separate administrator password), as well as to register new uID accounts and create new websites.

Login and Signup Errors

Here are some examples of malfunctions caused by the uID server issue:

The registration of new uID profiles has been successfully recovered. Currently, there’s a problem with the creation of new websites that can be observed only by those users whose uID accounts belong to the affected s1.uid.me server. The RAID of the server is being recovered in a special laboratory. That's why as much as we would like to speed up the process, we are afraid, this is beyond our power. However, even though the issue turned out to be more serious than we initially thought, tomorrow we are expecting good news from the specialists involved in the recovery process.

We invite you to read further to find out the temporary solutions you can use.

I can’t access my user account on the website! What can I do?

If you try to log in to your website and see the error shown above, go to the settings of the Users module and change the type of the uID sign-in button from “New” to “Old”:

After that you will be able to log in to the website using the Old login form:

I can’t access the Control Panel! What should I do?

If you don’t have a separate administrator password to log in to the Control Panel after you click on the http://your_website/admin link, you will end up having the following login form:

...followed by this error:

To solve this issue, please post your website’s URL address in this forum thread or in the comments below so that we can replace the uID sign-in with an individual administrator password.

After the login form has been changed, please go to http://your_website/admin/456 and set up the password you will use to log in to the Control Panel.

Compensation for affected users

We're very sorry that some of our users still continue to experience discomfort while working with their uCoz websites, after so many days. In addition to this, we have our guilt for not publishing this post earlier. That's why we believe that it is more than fair to compensate you by extending your paid services with the number of days that will take to fully establish the correct operation of the login and signup systems.

If your website’s correct operation was heavily influenced by the problems on the uID.me server, please, send the URL address of your website to the top@ucoz.net email address.

Please accept our sincere apologies for inconveniences caused to you, and we appreciate your understanding as we try to rectify the issues as soon as possible.

We would like to apologize for any inconveniences! Our team's top priority is to bring the login and signup system back to its working condition in the shortest time possible, however, this doesn't only depend on us, as we stated in the article.

Also you should check the server performance with SSL enabled websites, it has a terrible performance when I switch to SSL  so I had to deactivated it... Also I tried to use my website with CloudFlare and it was like magic but then people was unable to login due to problems with the cookies (cloudflare always load the website from his cache so I had to abandon  the idea)... so well I been on uCoz since 2011 and I'm still in love with the CMS and the help desk response but this year server's performance were annoying and had terrible consequences on my SEO ranking and now I have to use my website without SSL (despite that I'm premium user) because my audience and also google search console alert me about problems with my website ("ERR_SOCKET_NO_CONNECTED" "ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT" "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE" "ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED" or "the website took too long to respond." and son on... ) and well my site is hosted on server s41 since 2011.

And I know that is an issue with the server because when I used the cloudflare CDN the site loaded from the CloudFlare's cache worked wonderfully but due to the problem with the log in (cookies) I had to turned off the CDN and get back to the direct connection.
